Logistics Centre West

Logistics Centre West

Europe's largest timber logistics facility, and, to date, by far the largest building using straw panels.

Project Overview

Logistics Centre West (LCW) is a 155,000 m² logistics and distribution facility in Lelystad, the Netherlands. Designed by the acclaimed Danish firm Henning Larsen and executed by leading Dutch contractor Bouwbedrijf van de Ven, the building integrates more than 23,600 m³ of solid wood and 40,900 m² of EcoCocon prefabricated straw wall panels — making it, by total straw panel area, the largest project of its kind in the world.

The logistics centre will house offices, a state-of-the-art distribution and storage system, and a rooftop garden restaurant with terrace — alongside direct access to surrounding nature for employees and visitors. Over 40% of the site area is reserved for landscape and ecological restoration.

LCW is already a clear signal to the industry that bio-based materials and industrial-scale construction can be fully compatible.

"

What excites me most is that LCW shows sustainability at scale. It brings together ambition, performance, and beauty in one of the most unlikely building typologies.
