Project Overview
Ecoespai is a 1,000 m² multi-purpose public building commissioned by the Ajuntament de Mont-roig del Camp and completed in 2024 in Miami Platja, Tarragona. Designed by Pepe Milà of OP Team, the building serves as a shared space for municipal administration, cultural programming, and coworking — conceived from the outset as a reference project for sustainable public construction.
The building's organic, hand-shaped form — also known as "the Octopus" — was made possible by digitally controlled precision fabrication of its prefabricated components, combining CLT and 410 m² of EcoCocon straw wall panels with millimetric execution of the foundation.
Wood, straw, clay, and compressed earth blocks are the primary materials throughout — each placed according to its specific structural and environmental properties, and deliberately left exposed. Mechanical installations are equally visible, giving the building an openly didactic quality: visitors can read how the building works simply by being inside it.
