EcoCocon Factory

EcoCocon Factory

A factory built from the panels it produces. The EcoCocon Factory serves as both our primary manufacturing facility and a showcase for the capabilities of straw panel construction. Built with our own technology, it shows our commitment to what we stand for.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Located in Voderady, Slovakia, and completed in September 2024, the EcoCocon factory is both our primary manufacturing facility and a working demonstration of the system it produces. Designed by Createrra and built using 623.6 m² of EcoCocon straw wall panels, the 1,053 m² production hall proves that bio-based materials are not limited to residential or small-scale applications — they are fully capable of meeting strict industrial requirements, including large structural spans and high-performance fire resistance.

Inside, the facility transitions straw panel manufacturing from manual assembly to high-precision robotic engineering: five industrial robots operate across six custom-built workstations, achieving panel production accuracy of ±1 mm. Annual capacity stands at 50,000 m² of panels — enough to build approximately 500 single-family homes per year.

The building itself performs to Passive House standards. Machine waste heat alone is sufficient to warm the production hall — no active heating required. The breathable straw envelope naturally regulates temperature, eliminating the need for active cooling. An extensive green roof manages stormwater and supports local biodiversity.

Building our own factory with our straw panel technology was the ultimate test of our product. The result speaks for itself - a functional industrial facility that's comfortable, efficient, and serves as a living showcase of what we offer our clients.

KEY FEATURES

  • 1,053 m² industrial production facility, completed September 2024, Voderady, Slovakia

  • 623.6 m² of EcoCocon straw wall panels — the building is constructed using its own product

  • World's first fully automated straw wall panel production facility

  • 5 industrial robots, 6 custom-built workstations

  • Panel production accuracy: ±1 mm

  • Annual production capacity: 50,000 m² — approximately 500 single-family homes per year

  • Airtightness: 0.14 1/h (BDT test — significantly exceeding Passive House requirements)

  • Zero active heating: machine waste heat is sufficient to warm the entire hall

  • Zero active cooling: breathable straw envelope regulates temperature naturally

  • Load-bearing BauBuche (high-strength beech laminate) structure for large spans

  • Extensive green roof supporting local biodiversity and stormwater management

  • Solar-powered operation minimising operational carbon footprint

PROJECT IMPACT

  • Approximately 72 tonnes of CO₂ stored in EcoCocon straw panels

  • Passive House standard achieved in a fully operational industrial environment

  • 50,000 m² annual panel capacity enabling bio-based construction at a significant scale

  • Zero active heating or cooling — operational carbon footprint minimised by design
