EcoCocon Achieves REI 45 Fire Resistance Classification

We’re thrilled to share an important milestone for EcoCocon panels! In recent fire safety tests, our panels achieved a REI 45 classification. This was accomplished with just an airtight membrane on the external face and no additional layers, proving the inherent fire resistance of our bio-based materials.

The tests were conducted on 250mm thick panels, which withstood 50 minutes of open flame, meeting the REI 45 standard. However, our standard panels, which are 300mm-400mm thick, are expected to achieve even higher fire resistance under similar conditions.

For projects requiring even greater protection, the entire EcoCocon wall system has been classified as REI 120, offering 120 minutes of fire resistance. These results reaffirm our commitment to creating safe, sustainable, and high-performing construction solutions.

Stay tuned as we continue to innovate and push the boundaries of natural building materials!

Martha Lewis dangerous chemicals & building trade: It's very serious

We interviewed Martha Lewis, senior architect and head of materials at Henning Larsen on the Feldballe Free School project we worked together on in Denmark. As winner of the 2019 Person Prize for outstanding commitment to sustainability, there are few better advocates for change within the architectural and construction industry. With the school project opening only weeks away, we found out why we should be concerned about the current situation in industry and what we can do to move towards much needed change: How a devastating set of chemicals is affecting health and fertility. What her research revealed about the amount of chemicals used in buildings. How current processes are allowing hazardous materials into our buildings. And her own research into chemical labelling and how we can be better informed.
